Even kids needs to know how to make, use and manage money. Use good financial decisions while playing the JA More than Money board game. Identify jobs you can do to earn money and even work with a group to play the Business Game with your team’s own business plan and company logo you'll design! We’ll play simulation games to reinforce our new money-management skills.

Finish your summer reading project in a fun place and with friends! Curl up with a good book on the beach bean bags, a picnic blanket, in the pillow nook, or “camping” under the stars. Read and discuss any books you’re reading this summer. Students may sign up for multiple weeks for as much reading time at this beach as their schedule permits.

A game that doesn’t require electricity? Yes! Dive into timeless board games and have fun with friends, old and new. Monopoly, Scrabble, Life, Checkers, Battleship, Sorry, Yahtzee and more! The Board Game Classic will be held at the end of our class. Students may sign up for 1, 2 or 3 weeks for as much board-game fun as their schedule permits.

Retell folk tales through dramatic performance, singing, instruments, composition, improvisation, movement and dance. Students will present a final performance that showcases their work.
So You Want to be A Star? Performer’s Experience

Stars will shine brightly as we practice all aspects of the performance arts: playwriting, auditioning, character development, directing, singing, acting and dancing. Through 4 weeks of games, music, personal and group exploration, we will dive into combining efforts to culminate a final musical theater performance.
Create Your Own Masterpiece

Papercrafting in 2D & 3D

Create visually exciting 2-D art and 3-D sculptures with the wonderful art of papercrafting! Think outside the crayon box and expand your artistic vision for creating greeting cards, exploring other cultures and cutting paper to create unique works of art.
Hurricane Alert E-Mission

Do you want to be a storm chaser? Become a weather expert as we analyze data, assess the severity of the storms and make life-saving recommendations for residents in harms’ way as part of our Hurricane Alert E-Mission. Teams will analyze scientifically accurate data to learn how hurricanes form, how they are named and how to track them. We will connect via satellite to a Flight Director at Mission Control and work together to analyze date and handle a problem situation as the storm unfolds.
Hi-tech Storytelling: Intro to Filmmaking

Create your own website using Google’s free tools. Design an attractive website that includes proper use of pictures, links, embedded video, and more. We’ll discuss Internet etiquette. Learn to make your first million as we explore the techniques for building your own business. We’ll play the E-Quiz game show, solve the Entrepreneur Challenge by brainstorming new business ideas, bid on Mystery Businesses in the I Have an Idea Auction, create advertisements, and more! When you are done you will be ready to launch your own business!

How did Billie, Elvis, Bob, Johnny Rotten, Chuck D, and other rock musicians change the world? How is music a catalyst for change? Explore the sounds and sights the challenged society. Try your hand at writing your own words and music that will jam H-Town.
Writing with Voice

This is not school! This is fun! Anyone can write, but what makes your writing stand out? Learn to avoid those repetitive essay endings by finding your own personal “voice.” We’ll listen to music, view art, and read great essays from notable authors and have a chance to imitate, emulate, and create. Each section will be different. Students may sign up for both weeks to develop more of their writing voice.
Comic Strip Animation

Create original comic-strip characters and stories and then animate them using zoetrope and flipbook techniques.
Sculpting

Creating something from raw materials that look like nothing is magic! Try sculpting a variety of media into small and large examples of relief and sculpture in the round. We’ll focus on fun and interesting subject matter. No special skills necessary, just a willingness to try new materials. Each section will be different. Students may sign up for both weeks to spend more time sculpting.
Drawing

Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Degas, and Andrew Wyeth all were fluent in the language of drawing. Learn how to show what you see, observed or imagined, with the techniques of visual measuring, proportion, perspective, light and shadows and composition.
Fun with Improvisation

Learn the art of acting on-the-spot, without lines or scripts. Play improv games to develop techniques that are sure to tickle a few funny bones. Come prepared to laugh while we learn what improv is all about. No previous acting experience is necessary. Each section will be different. Students may sign up for both weeks to enjoy a longer improv experience.
Nutrition & Conditioning for Competitive Athletes

Exercise & eat for success in competitive sports. Designed for students who will join competitive sports teams in the upcoming year, athletes will focus on proper nutrition and exercise routines. When students leave, they will have a program to follow for the remainder of the summer.
